The skating rink at Nathan Phillips Square opened this weekend for the 2009-10 winter season. Skating is free of charge. Skates are available from the rink's rental shop at reasonable prices, but you are encouraged to bring your own skates.
The outbreak of SARS in 2003 taught us a hard lesson – we had to be better prepared for a potential influenza pandemic. Hence, the Ministry of Health and Long-Term Care along with key stakeholders developed a pandemic preparedness plan in 2004. Over the past five years, the Ontario Health Plan for an Influenza Pandemic (OHPIP) has evolved considerably through the input of over 400 experts representing all levels of government and a broad spectrum of health and emergency response professionals. The plan is continually improved and enhanced to reflect new knowledge and information, and tested to ensure our preparedness.
In Ontario, even before the WHO declared a global pandemic, the OHPIP was implemented. Ontario has shipped 700,000 doses (2.2m in total) of H1N1 flu vaccine to the province's public health units since October 21 in order to allow immunization clinics to begin.

27/10: Toronto LG Fashion Week

LG Fashion Week by L'Oreal is in full swing. The event is the 2nd largest fashion event in North America, and is now in its 11th year. If the second half of Fashion Week is anything like the Barbie by David Dixon show, its sure to be a huge success.

Henley & Partners ranked countries by the freedom of movement based on the ability to travel by their passport holders. Canada ranked 4h, ahead of the United Kingdom, but behind the USA and and top ranking Denmark.

On August 30th, the Pan American Sports Organization’s (PASO) Evaluation Commission visited key sites slated for the Pan / Parapan American Games 2015, and had the opportunity to meet with Bid and senior government officials, and renowned athletes and officials involved in Toronto’s bid.
The 2015 Pan American Games will bring 10,000 athletes and officials to Ontario, along with 250,000 tourists. The Games will trigger 15,000 new jobs in the province, primarily in construction, tourism and event support.
